Hi,
Maria and I have a wonderful discussion on censorship this week. I'm really impressed on the speech censorship in Singapore!!!
Since next week will be the Eve of the Chinese New Year, both Maria and I cannot show up. I'm wondering if it suits others (acually, Angela only...haha) well to postpone our discussion until the week (2/20) after next week.
Besides, regarding to the host, Maria says that it is fine for her to host the discussion if Angela wanna take a rest. Maria's tentative topic will be a movie. (sorry, I forget the title...)
Happy Chinese New Year & Valentine's Day!!!
Best,
James
Hey all,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you had wonderful discussion last night (well, for you, it should be "last afternoon" haha...)
Sure next week's discussion can be postponed to the week after, as it will be the Chinese New Year's Eve on next Sat.
So HAPPY NEW YEAR haha!
Actually, I will go back to Taiwan during the Chinese New Year, 2/16-3/1. As I seldom go back to Taiwan, I actually will have some gatherings and trips with my family members and friends during my two-week stay in Taiwan, and one is on Feb. 20 afternoon. Therefor I cannot make it again on Feb. 20. Sorry about that!!!!!As for Feb. 27, I'm not sure yet, but it's likely that I again will have some outing. If so, then I won't be able to make it again. Sorry about that!!!!
I hope you understand that my recent absence is not because of thinking of quitting, but mainly as a result of my schedule of going back to Taiwan. After this, I can be the host for a couple of weeks haha. Thanks for your participation!!! I'm really sorry that I missed all the funny and inspiring discussion!!!
Best,
Angela
An additional information for the "speech restriction inside the democratic SGP", from what I observed when I was working there is that you can critize the government within family, as long as it's not in public. And although I don't think there's a law, but you are not allow to mock the government publicly in any ways. Once my team had this idea to scale up the mug-shots of the PM and his ministers for our company D&D party, many colleagues got nervous being sued.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I can say, Singaporean are too busy paying their bills to bother with their has-already-done-a-good-job government. ^.^
Wow! Interesting additional info! Guess I really missed a fantastic discussion...
