Articles for September 4th Discussion

Hi all,

Here are articles for the coming discussion:

  1. 1 min reading: Killing our dreams
  2. Here, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty: Is it legal to eat your cat?
  3. Scandals: Why We Can't Live Without Them
James will be in China, where he is not sure if the internet will work for our online discussion. If he posts nothing here then we may assume the internet is not working. Maria if you can't make it for the coming weekend, inform me either via this blog or skype message panel. In that case, we'll discuss the three articles the week after. 

That's pretty much it so far.

    just finished reading the scandal article...really an interesting topic...

    btw, there are quite a few difficult vocabularies to me...guess either the author likes to use big words or i have little vocabulary capacity...need to study harder...

    Dear Angela,

    Another apology from me *.*

    Seems that everybody prefer to spend their end of summer in Yilan ... yup, I have yet another friend come to my house this weekend ... and I've volunteered myself to help Yilan government with the International Triathlon Games that will be held here this year.

    I suggest we find another member for this study group, so not to let you wait in vain everyweek.

    Hi Maria,

    Thanks for letting me know that you can't make it this time. Don't worry, it's ok and i don't feel that I wait in vain every week. I can always do something else while the discussion is cancelled.

    It's considerate of you to suggest finding another member for this group. I may consider that in the near future. For now, I think we are ok. This group is intended to be easy and flexible. Don't feel pressured :)

    Just to remind you that I can't join this study group as I've volunteered myself for the Triathlon tomorrow ... if they don't cancel the games due to the upcoming strong typhoon.

    Hey Maria,

    Don't worry! It's ok! Happy volunteering! I hope the typhoon won't cause much damages in Taiwan. As a matter of fact, I can't make it this week either. Recently I've been overwhelmed by preparation for a career fair next week. I have to work on CVs, resumes, and personal site, etc. I guess we may have our discussion next week? Talk to you soon!

    Dear Angela,

    I received an invitation for an award ceremony ... yup, I won a prize in a chinese writing competition! ^.^ It's only the higly recommended prize (佳作) though.
    The bad news is, the ceremony will be held at Sept 25 13:30, means I can't attend our study group ... again *.*

    I bet you already know by know that if I leave a message here, means I can't attned our study group. My husband needs to go to Taipei tomorrow for some urgent project, and visit his parents as well. So me, as a daughter in law, will looked unfilial if I don't follow him, won't I?

    Oh oh oh that's ok. Don't worry about the discussion. Are you guys ok? The typhoon seemed to cause some disasters in Taiwan, especially Yi-lan. Hope everything is fine.
